Turtle Island Natural Foods is an independent grocer, food shop, and caterer in Atlantic Beach. A friendly lady working at the shop when I visited the other day told me they specialize in vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free products and prepared foods, but from what I saw, anyone who appreciates fresh and healthy food will LOVE Turtle Island. Atlantic Beach is lucky to have this place! It feels like a shop that would be in a larger (and more culinarily progressive?) city. Kind of like a Trader Joe's, only locally-owned and with amazingly delicious looking prepared foods.
Turtle Island has a decent selection of dry goods, including a wall full of bulk items like nuts, granola, dry beans, flours, and active yeast. The aisles in the middle of the shop hold organic canned and dried goods - tomatoes, sauces, rice, dried pastas, big beautiful coconut flakes, crystallized ginger. You'll find teas and coffees near the entrance to the shop and even some eco-friendly cleaning products. Near the food counter is small selection of fresh produce - a sign says that everything is either organic or locally and sustainably grown. Not too much produce to choose from, but the selection definitely covers the basics.
